This course is available to seventh and eighth graders who are looking for guidance in preparing for the Upper Level SSAT. We work with our students to build a personalized study plan that focuses on specific sections of the SSAT that they want to work on the most. Additionally, with the experience from previously taking the SSAT, we will give you specific tips and advice to help you excel on the test.
Verbals:
Students will be provided with several resources and techniques to help them efficiently and effectively learn vocabulary words to prepare for the verbal section of the SSAT.
Reading comprehension:
We will work with students to practice analyzing SSAT reading passages and answering specific types of questions including tone, inferences, and main idea. We will mostly rely on online resources/websites.
Quantitative reasoning:
We will work with students in reviewing different math concepts needed to ace the SSAT. We will be using online resources and custom worksheets.
Writing:
Through practice writing tests and workshopping essays, students will learn how to best craft an argument/storyline in a short period of time. They will learn about time management and specific techniques to excel in the SSAT writing section.
Ashley is a junior at The Winsor School. An avid writer and reader, she has been practicing creative writing since middle school and is a staff writer for her school's newspaper. Besides writing, Ashley also loves swimming, playing the piano, baking, and hiking with her dog Teddy.
