Thank you for your interest in becoming a tutor with us! Below, please read our FAQ and tutor responsibilities to learn more about tutoring with us.
We look for high school tutors. Above qualifications, we look for tutors that are dedicated to teaching and are willing to invest time in our organization. Tutors can be from anywhere around the United States or even from other countries.
Yes! We host regular info sessions designed to help new tutors get started with tutoring. Additionally, we are currently putting together a collection of teaching resources for tutors to use as a head start. However, having previous tutoring experience is always a plus on the application process.
We let our tutors decide how many students they are willing to take. Generally, our tutors choose to teach 1-3 students at a time. Classes generally take place once a week for an hour and we ask tutors invest extra time in helping develope their lessons. Thus, you should be ready to devote at least 2-3 hours per week.
Generally, our tutors use Zoom for lessons and Google Classrooms for distributing materials and assignments. Tutors are expected to not only teach new concepts, but also create customized homework assignments, projects, and assessments. We are currently creating a database full of resources but this is not yet finalized.
Yes! Keep in mind that community service forms/policies are different for every town so you will need to contact your school if you do not live in one of the towns we already have tutors in. Tutors will be given credit for all of their lessons and the time they have spent planning for their lessons.

Please email us at aatutoring20@gmail.com Make sure to include your qualifications and whether you know anyone else who would be interested in tutoring or learning your desired subject.
Much of the acceptance process is based on whether there are students who match your skillsets so the admissions process is not completely based on how qualified we believe you are. Your interview is much more important than your qualifications as they give us a good sense of your teaching style so do not worry if you feel your qualifications are not strong. We accept around 50% of the applications.
If you are not accepted, you are able to join our curriculums team. This team focuses on creating material for the tutors to work and is extremely important. You can still earn community service when on the curriculum team. If we notice that you are creating very high quality worksheets, we may upgrade you to a tutor.
1) Communicating with parents
When we pair you to your students, it is important to communicate effectively with the students and their families. You can choose to communicate using any platform of your choice-- email, text, social media--whatever works best for both of you. We ask our tutors to keep families updated lesson plans and your student's progress through weekly lesson summaries to keep them updated on their students' progress.
2) Be prepared!
It is important for tutors to plan out their curriculums and arrive at each lesson prepared with class notes, assignments, and homework feedback. We will provide you example lesson plans and worksheets that will help you get started. Community service is counted for the time that you prep so make sure you are putting in as much effort as possible!
3) Stick to your schedule
Tutors must maintain a regular weekly schedule with each of their students. If you must reschedule a lesson, tell the student in advance. If there is a technology issue, make sure the parents are aware. Maintaining a structured schedule will help create a more stable learning environment for students.
3) Stay organized
Please take care to keep track of the hours you spend tutoring and how much money your student's must donate. At the end of each month, please take care to remind your student's family to make the appropriate donations.
5) Be committed to your students
Please try to commit to your students for at least several months to ensure that they have a stable learning experience. If you are unable to do this, please do not apply.
6) It may be a cliche but...have fun!
At the end of the day, our goal to promote education in a fun and engaging way for both students and tutors. We hope that you form friendships with your students, and maybe learn a thing or two along the way!
